In fact, XP or recruitment Rank bonuses actually become a penalty here - as the unit will just evolve quicker. Right now I literally have to scrap the unit that just evolved, and recruit a new T1 one - just to not have my army become worse. It is nice that Feudal Polearms can Evolve into T2 Feudal Shield units - but what if I really need a polearm unit, while I have no use for a Shield Unit? What if I can not afford the extra upkeep of a T2 unit? In particular Evolutions that change the unit type are a issue. While that sounds like a "always good" thing on paper, not every transformation is a positive one for every strategy.
